Delaware’s Department of Labor will hold its Building Delaware Together construction workforce expo on Thursday, September 17, at POLYTECH High School in Woodside. Announced September 11, the event brings employers, training providers, apprenticeship programs and workforce partners together with people considering construction careers.

The official announcement lists a high-school student session from 1 to 3 p.m. and a public and job-seeker session from 4 to 6 p.m., local time. The venue is 823 Walnut Shade Road, Woodside. The state’s event page is the place to check registration and current arrangements before traveling.

Make the conversation specific

A contractor preparing to meet candidates can start with one clear description of the role it needs to fill. Explain the work, expected schedule, entry requirements and training available. Separate an immediate vacancy from a longer-term apprenticeship or training opportunity so visitors understand the next step.

Job seekers can prepare a short account of relevant experience and the kind of work they want to learn. Ask employers what a new worker would do in the first month, who provides supervision and which prerequisites must be completed before starting. Ask training programs about costs, schedules and how instruction connects to workplace experience.

Why homeowners have a stake

Recruitment events are one part of how local businesses build their teams. They do not establish that a particular company can start a home project sooner. Homeowners comparing proposals should still ask who will perform and supervise the work, which parts depend on subcontractors and how staffing assumptions affect the schedule.

For a business, decide how interested candidates can follow up after the expo and who will respond. A simple, consistent process makes it easier to distinguish a promising conversation from a completed hiring step. Attendance itself is not a credential or proof that a person is ready to perform regulated work independently.

The event is a near-term opportunity to connect people with construction careers. Check the organizer’s latest information for participation details and bring questions tied to the trade or role that interests you.
